Learn more than "roll over" and "play dead"

When I was a child I believed completely in the familiar saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" I am old enough to know the truth now. Seriously who thought of that saying? Not only does my 8 year old dog learn new tricks, so do I. The alternative is to stick to the old tricks like "roll over" and "play dead". Even my 88 year old mother doesn't do those tricks!!

I have learned sooooo much in the last few years. A major change in attitude came 4 years ago when I needed blood transfusions. When you lay in the emergency room all night long with new life dripping in slooooowly you have a lot of time to think. I went into "learning" gear. I knew I didn't have the strength to keep up my massage therapy business. So I decided to learn real estate. The schooling took me longer than usual because my short term retention had not returned. I would go to class and forget everything I heard. Pull out the books and study half the night. I made it through and passed all tests. Then the real challenge begin.
It's funny when I was younger, I hated school. I hated studying. I freaked out in tests. When my attitude changed in my illness that whole school hate changed. I was now going to school with an inquisitive mind. I wanted to learn. I wanted to prove what I learned with the testing.
Life in Sync comes with a mind change.
I continued to learn as I began my real estate career. Right away I knew it wasn't for me. A whole new way of thinking. Pressure is always on to make the close. After being use to calming people down with touch this was not my thing. But I kept at it, thinking I just needed to learn more. Learn I did, about me and real estate and computers (which I had been resisting). Those three years were the best learning experience in my life.
I had a dream, my subconscience was yelling at me. I wouldn't listen when I was awake. Fast coming to an ulcer from the pressure I was putting on myself. In my dream I was driving an old blue pick up truck. At first the steering wheel was a computer key board. I was talking on the phone to a real estate friend. (Clue this dream was about my job) The steering wheel became regular when I started driving down a dirt road. I realized I was on the wrong road and needed to turn around. A white car came straight for me on the one lane dirt road. I turned left into an alley. As the white car passed, the driver ran a finger across her neck. She yelled "turn around, get off of this path." I said "I am trying to" and began to back up. As I left the dirt I woke up.
I knew with all my heart this was my subconscience telling me what I wouldn't acknowledge.
Even then it took me another 6 months to leave real estate. I was working with people who had lost their homes in this economy and finding them rentals. I was working with a few investors who couldn't make up their minds. I was working with new buyers and the challenge of getting a couple into a short sale home. I wanted to see these to the finish. I learned about me by staying to the finish.
I learned to acknowledge my balance. It is in helping people with their health. I am returning to that field. I have my strength back, my memory is healed and I have learned a great deal to help people find their balance. I am excited to return to what I know and learn more about it. Always learning new tricks. Never just "roll over" never just "play dead" There so much more to life.

Today is a great day to start

Me? Blogging? I am more of a private person. I want to know you before I share me. Today I decided to change that. You get to know me and I might never know you.

This blog, Life in Sync Techniques, is about the ever elusive balance of life. The things we do everyday to feel in contol of our day. Is that ever possible? We are only as in control or independent as the circumstance of the moment allows us to be. Balance is an on going process, a journey. If we say one day "I am balanced" or "I am perfect" then why not sit in a chair for the rest of your life? (So you don't fall out of balance or perfectness.) No, these conditions can't be attained completely in this life. Life then is a process of daily doing things that bring joy and balance to you. Balance in life is unique to you. Your feeling of balance is different than someone else's feeling. I love that we are all so different.
So this blog will be about things that I do or find that brings a sense of sync to my life.
Like the other day, I was in Barnes and Noble looking for a book on healthy nutrition. A very kind lady in the same aisle as me suggested a cook book by Tosca Reno. What a great book. I made the "crock-pot porridge". It cooks all night in the crock pot. Had to stop at Whole Foods and collect all the ingredients. Recipe below. It makes lots and is good for the week, heated in the micro.
Enjoy!

Croc-Pot Porridge

This porridge is from Tosca Reno's book The Eat-Clean diet cookbook

1/2 cup cracked wheat
1 1/2 cup steel-cut oats
1/2 cup rye flakes
1/2 cup brown rice
1/4 cup wheat germ
6 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup raisins
1 1/2 Tbsp vanilla
pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg

1. Place all ingredients in a 3 quart crock pot. Stir well to combine all ingredients. Cover.
2. Set on lowest cooking temperature and cook overnight.
3. Spoon into cereal bowls in the morning and serve.
Option: Use applesauce on top in place of sugar.
I used with rice milk.
